Welcome to the IWonder Class

 

Learning Objectives

Use the following objectives to check your learning as you proceed through the class:

  • Locate IWonder on the INFOhio website.
  • Understand the organizational structure of IWonder.
  • Learn how to use IWonder Genius Hour. 
  • Teach students how to use IWonder to locate information. 
  • Demonstrate using IWonder to help students with homework assignments. 
  • Create lesson plans using IWonder Genius Hour to stimulate student curiosity and sustain short inquiry projects.  
  • Reflect on learning by sharing information with others.  

 

In this class, you will work through several lessons to learn how to find INFOhio's IWonder, how to use the resource, and how to integrate it when teaching the inquiry process.

Getting Started
  • Pretest: Take a quiz to find out what you know or need to know about IWonder. 5 minutes
  • Welcome to the IWonder Class: Review the course objectives and the course overview. 5 minutes
  • Using Open Space Groups: Join the INFOhio Resources for Research group in Open Space. In this group, discuss and reflect on the integration of this resource into the classroom with like-minded educators. 5 minutes
How to Use IWonder
  • Getting to Know IWonder: Practice the steps to find the resource on www.infohio.org. Think about what you learned by answer the questions. 5 minutes
  • Using IWonder: Learn how to use the categories in IWonder to support student learning, assist with homework, and spark curiosity. 10 minutes
  • Using IWonder Genius Hour: Read the IWonder Genius Hour Teacher Guide and IWonder Genius Hour Worksheet. 15 minutes
  • What Have You Learned So Far? Take a short quiz to check what you know. 5 minutes
  • Applying What You Have Learned: Complete an activity to practice using IWonder. 10 minutes
Integrating IWonder into Classroom Instruction
  • Teaching Students to Locate Information with IWonder: Learn how to use the IWonder categories to guide students as they locate information. 15 minutes
  • Creating a Lesson to Support Inquiry with IWonder: Use the IWonder Genius Hour Teacher Guide and Genius Hour Worksheet to sustain a short inquiry assignment. 35 minutes
Checking Your Learning
  • Self-Assessments: Answer questions to reflect on what you learned. 10 minutes
  • Contact Hours Quiz and Certificate: Take a quiz to earn a certificate for 2 contact hours. 5 minutes
