Explore this Lens (Chapter 1)

Explore this Lens (pages 1 - 5), Chapter 1 Recap
  • The first lens is the emotional trigger. This occurs when something we see, hear, or read evokes an emotional reaction.
  • Confirmation bias—dismissing information that contradicts our beliefs—and ambiguity aversion—our brain's default to known information—contribute to our reactions to information.
  • Unfamiliar or threatening information can cause the fight or flight response. It triggers emotions that guide how we decide to react. Fear, greed, superiority, envy, guilt, and a sense of belonging are powerful drivers of our decisions about information.

INFOhio's Educator Tools contains thousands of eBooks and videos to supplement curriculum. These items in our permanent collection support high-need topics including information literacy. One title to use with the lessons and resources included in Developing Digital Detectives is Media Literacy: Information and Disinformation.
